The decision was not “ship or do not ship”. It was “what has actually been checked?”
For an Amazon FBA seller, the final inspection is often treated as one last checkbox before a freight booking. In practice, the useful part is the sequence: confirm that the production location and the goods match the booking, open the cartons instead of relying on outer marks, then review the product points that cannot be seen from a sealed box.
On this visit, that sequence mattered more than a long generic checklist. The buyer needed evidence about the ready goods, the packing arrangement and an accessible internal construction point before deciding whether the shipment could proceed.
At the door: verify the work is where the booking says it is
An inspection visit cannot prove every statement a supplier has made about its business. It can, however, establish what is physically present on the day: the working location, the available stock, the stage of packing and whether the inspector can access the units selected for review.
That distinction is important for buyers who have only dealt with a supplier by email or messaging. A polished quotation does not replace evidence from the location where the shipment is being prepared. If the booked goods, the timing or access do not align with the instructions, the report should describe that fact rather than fill the gap with assumptions.
At the packing table: an empty carton still answers a real question
Next came the export carton. One carton was opened and reviewed next to packed units. The point was not simply to photograph cardboard. We needed to see whether the carton set-up, inner packing, carton marks and actual packed goods could be compared against the buyer’s instructions.
For FBA shipments, this is where small errors become expensive: an incorrect carton count, a label applied to the wrong surface, missing protective material, or a packed configuration that is different from the one used for approval. The right action depends on the booking. Some buyers need FNSKU and carton-label checks; others need dimensions, quantity, polybag warnings or a documented photo record for their forwarder.
Inside the product: separate packaging approval from product approval
A carton can be correctly marked and still contain a product that does not meet the buyer’s specified checks. In this case, an accessible internal lighting assembly and its rating information were examined as a separate point. The purpose was not to make a compliance claim from one photo. It was to verify the physical configuration against the relevant instructions and record what was observed.
This is why a meaningful inspection booking needs more than an order quantity. If a product has a voltage requirement, a function test, a component concern, an approval sample or a market-specific packing rule, put it in the booking before the visit. The inspector can then test or document the right point while the goods are still at the factory.
What the buyer received after the visit
The value of the inspection was the record tying those observations together: goods available for review, packing configuration, the selected product point and the next decision. If a question remains, the buyer can request clarification, corrective work, a targeted re-inspection or a hold before final payment and dispatch. If the findings support release, the same evidence becomes useful for the forwarder and the receiving team.
